Who is Matthew Blair Davis?

A 19-year fitness industry veteran, Matthew Blair Davis has been the owner and operator of Functional Revolution, Inc in Charleston, South Carolina since January 2015. He is also the Strength & Conditioning Coach of the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL and off-ice trainer for the Charleston Youth Hockey Association (CYHA) travel teams.

In 2015, Matthew was voted a Top 5 Personal Trainer by the public in the City Paper's "Best of Charleston" competition. In 2014, he was the Regional Fitness Director for O2 Fitness in the Charleston, SC area. Matthew managed the personal training program of all 12 locations, almost doubling the overall $ production and staff members during his time there. Prior to that in 2013, he was the Area Training Director for Body Renew Fitness in the Washington DC area. Matthew created the personal training program at both company locations in Winchester, VA. He more than tripled the number of training staff and revenues of the program.

Between 2011-2013, Matthew was the Fitness Director at Worldgate Sport&Health Club in Herndon, VA. He managed an award-winning personal training team at this 116,000 square foot facility, breaking every personal training record and setting a new company standard of $200,000 in a single month. Matthew was the "2011 Fitness Director of the Year".

In October 2012, Matthew was a featured speaker at the Club Industry Show in Las Vegas, NV on the topic of "Taking your personal training program from good to great". He was also the selected facilitator of the Fitness Director round-table discussion.

In 2010 and 2011, Matthew was an Adjunct Professor at American University in Washington DC. He instructed the Principles and Techniques of Weight Training class in the School of Education, Teaching, and Health.

In 2005, Matthew founded Functional Revolution, Inc. For 2 years he trained mostly adults in corporate fitness centers, private training studios, community fitness centers. He started training ice athletes in 2006. Between 2007-2011, Matthew had a client base of 40 ice athletes between the Fairfax Ice Arena in Fairfax, VA and the Cabin John Ice Rink in Rockville, MD. He worked under 1999 US Figure Skating Coach of the Year, Audrey Weisiger for 4 years training some of her top skaters.

Matthew was the off-ice strength coach of 10 final round juvenile and intermediate level skaters at the 2010 South Atlantic Regionals in Rockville, MD.

Matthew was the Off-Ice Training Presenter at "Grassroots To Champions" elite camps at Shattuck-St. Mary's prep school in Faribault, MN during the summers of 2009 and 2010.

Matthew was the official off-ice strength coach for the Skating Club of Northern Virginia at the Fairfax Ice Arena.

He founded, a web site for ice athlete strength and conditioning in 2008.

Matthew authored the "Train Reaction" fitness Q&A column in the weekly Washington Post Express FIT section 2006-2007.

From 2006 to 2009, Matthew was an author and contributor to, a web site for personal trainer education.

Between 2003-2005, Matthew was the Personal Training Director at the Gold's Gym in Chantilly, VA. He created the top personal training team in the area at that time.

Between 2002-2003, Matthew was the Fitness Director at Woodbridge Sport&Health Club in Woodbridge, VA. He won "Highest % Over Goal" for 2002.

Between 2000-2002, Matthew was a Personal Trainer at the Gold's Gym in Tallahassee, FL while in graduate school at Florida State.

Between 1998-2000, Matthew was a Fitness Instructor at the Leach Recreation Center at Florida State University as an undergraduate. He won the Spring 2000 semester's "Top Gun Exercise Leader" working under the great instructor, Gei-Nam Lim. Matthew has been working in fitness since the end of his sophomore school year.

Matthew has been married to Amanda since 2007, and they have a 6-year old daughter, Kendall and border terrier, Hector.

Colt Frye is a Functional Revolution contracting personal trainer in the Mount Pleasant, SC area. He is the owner of Frye Wellness, a personal training company that works with clients ranging from pain management to athletic performance. Colt is originally from Miami by way of Gainesville, FL where he received his Bachelors degree in Exercise Physiology at the University of Florida. Through his work with athletes, pre and post surgery patients, firefighters, and general population, Colt has developed a passion for movement and helping his clients achieve their goals and realize their vision.
